God Is Watching Me….

I am one of those people who, when approaching a red light, will let whatever vehicles are trying to get out onto the road go, no matter what. The way I figure it, we are all sitting at a red light and going no where, so why not let these poor people out into traffic, right? We are all in the same boat: dying of heat because it’s too hot outside for our car’s air conditioning to work real well, and all we really want is to get home to our families and our lives. I say, give way and let people out.

Today, the light wasn’t red, and traffic wasn’t moving too quickly. I debated for a second, but decided to let this little old lady in an SUV out in front of me any how. She was driving really slowly when she did get out into my lane, and I bitched under my breath about it, for a minute. Literally.

As soon as we’d entered the next intersection, WHAMO!!!!

She got nailed in the passenger side of the SUV by a car who ran the red light. WTF.  I couldn’t help but think, “OMG! Had I not let her out in front of me, it would have been me who got smashed!” It took a spell before I could breathe again in any normal sense of the word.

I pulled over and dialed 911. She was ok, and the children in the back of the SUV seemed unharmed as well. I quietly thanked God for both her and the children’s safety, and also for my own.

Something I normally don’t do, I did for some reason. Giving way to my not getting hit, but her getting hit. I am not quite sure what to think of the turn of events that followed that fateful split second decision on my part. I do know that my angels were watching over me today, because I am not sure that my little car would have fared so well in such an accident.

God is always over my shoulder, and there are so many times that I am reminded of such in both big obvious ways, as well as smaller more subtle ways.

God is watching us, from a distance.....
