Parvo

Ok..So, between working and family life, I spent most of the middle of the night, well into wee hours of the morning at the Animal Hospital.Parvo.Yes, that precious puppy. Killed himself a bird to bring to mommy and came down with parvo.People say, “Oh, it’s just a dog!”. They obviously aren’t the sort of person who should own one. Kind of like how there are plenty of people out there whom shouldn’t have children either, but they do.Poor little guy just broke my heart. Leaving him there was pretty painful too. Then, you get into the cost. OUCH! Of course, the only plan of action I have is to SAVE MY DOG! Anything else is inconsequential. How do you come up with that ungodly amount of money? (Let me tell you, I am sooo in the WRONG business!) Well, you just do.Then, there’s the business of disinfecting the house, the yard, EVERYTHING before he comes home from the hospital so that he doesn’t become infected again before the vaccine takes hold. Generally that takes two weeks from what my research tells me.3-4 days in the hospital. 3-4 days without my little Samson. He probably thinks he did something wrong. Mommy just left him like that. Talk about feeling like a bad dog mom!I know one thing though, even if your doggies don’t ever leave your own yard, never take for granted that they won’t come down with something. My dogs never leave their own yard, for my own fear of diseases. Yet, Samson kills a bird thinking he’s doing something good for mommy, and BLAMO! He’s on his death bed.Recovery? Prognosis is very good. Parvo isn’t the evil killer it used to be, but it is a very expensive venture if you chose to save your dog. Without aggressive treatment, your dog will not survive, period. That aggressive treatment is very costly.Basically, what it comes down to, is that had I gotten him his shots already like a good little doggie mom should do, he wouldn’t be going through this right now and neither would I.I am going to call the hospital right now and see how he’s doing.
