Today was a very long, very exciting and very exhausting day. Today, the Deer Valley Threshers opened up a big ol’ can o’ whoop ass all over their opponents, the Giants. Entire families were gathered on the sidelines, cheering on these pint sized players and sweating their asses off. It was 105 degrees today, on this beautiful Autumn Saturday. (didja catch the dripping sarcasm there?) Oh my lord, was it hot out there under the blaring Arizona sun. It ain’t Autumn out there, it’s still the middle of the summer! I felt really sorry for the boys in those pads and uniforms. Whew. We went through a massive amount of water today.
We were to arrive at the field two hours prior to game start time. The boys and girls had to go through inspections before they could be cleared to enter the field. I had volunteered for snack bar duty, representing the Threshers in the booth. Plz remind me to never, NEVER do that shit again! Oh hell no. Those ‘pop warner’ ladies who like run things are wicked snotty, rude and nasty. It took everything within me to keep from smashing one of them in the face due to her idiotic behavior! It was a boiler room in that tiny snack bar, with too many people inside, too many hot plates and way too many bees. I don’t do bees. Bees are evil. Luckily, I only had to work in there until 10am. Believe me, as soon as it struck ten o’clock, I was outta there so fast.

The players and the cheerleaders went on to the inspections. The cheerleaders are to have no jewelry, no nail polish, and are to be properly uniform in their appearance. The football players had to actually strip down for inspections, then put all of their pads back on and weigh in. We had two players who barely made weight by .5 pounds. We need to feed those boys some serious food! Once they had all passed inspections, it was time to hit the field and begin warming up in preparation of the game. The other team was rude and talkin’ smack to our boys, lookin’ all cocky and condescending as we filed past to our side of the field. They shouted a half assed “good luck” and we returned the sentiments. Heh. They had no idea what was comin’ at them today. None. It was sweet.
The boys hit that field with a vengeance. They were ferocious and unstoppable, it was fantastic! They clobbered all over those Giants one play after another. Our defense stopped the Giants in their tracks over and over again, causing their quarterback to become extremely pissed off. His anger didn’t help him though, not this time. Our offence just dominated at every turn. We ended up scoring over and over and over. Those poor Giants weren’t feeling so cocky now! TB busted it up out there on the field. It was so exciting to watch him! He played nearly the whole game. He’s playing tail back and loving every minute of it. His coaches love him and really get stoked watching him plow through the defenders and never being brought down. That boy is touch down bound and I have a feeling it’s going to be a really great first season for him! Since I am a team mom, I have a special badge that allows me to be on the field with the boys. Down there with me was Hubsend and Father Tom doing stats (they are officially the Threshers statistician now) and the Sicilian Princess (who is our assistant cheer coach). It truly was a family affair today! TB and Froggie had the best fans of everyone!
Since the cheer coach has been on hiatus, the Sicilian Princess has been in charge and I’m tellin’ you, those girls looked better than they have since we started all of this stuff. She had those girls synchronized, sharp and looking fantastic! They cheered their little hearts out today, standing in that hot sun sweating for the boys and looking so damned cute! Froggie is just adorable in her uniform and really is the essence of cheer. Looking at her and TB standing together it is just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen! I can’t get over the two of them. I was beaming with such pride out there as I made my way up and down the field, following the scrimmage line and then back again to stand next to the cheerleaders for a spell. Both kids are really putting their hearts into this. Once the game as over, a bunch of us met up at Peter Piper Pizza for some games and grub. The adults had some bonding time at the tables and our kids - cheerleaders and football players and their siblings bonded at the video games.
Finally, the day was over and we could head home, change out of our sweaty clothes, and rest. Mom took a nap while everyone else sort of lounged around the house. I am sunburned on my arms and face. TB is sunburned on the backs of his legs, Hubsend has a sunburned neck and little Bean got it on her cheeks and nose. It’s real nice since I was wearing sunglasses all day long. I’ve got some rockin’ racoon eyes going on right now. Sheesh. That’s what ya get in September in Arizona.
A great start to what is looking to be a great season and I am completely stoked for next Saturday! Go Threshers!
