Roly-poly’s, that is. Or, for those of you who call them by their true name - Pillbugs.
It was a lazy Sunday afternoon ‘round these parts. Laying by the pool, swimming, and sipping frozen Pina Coladas, when I realized that the towel I was laying on was not only soaking wet (thanks to the overspill from the pool water, and the fact I was laying in a lower portion of yard) but it was beginning to become covered in Roly-polys. That is when my 6 year old self took over, and Bean and I began to play with the little guys. Giggling and laughing, we’d watch ‘em roll up when touched, then unfurl when they felt it safe. Clinging to our hands, we marveled at their numerous legs and their tiny little “faces”.
Bean held one up to me, upside down, commenting on how white it’s underbelly was. All of a sudden an albino colored tiny little poly came crawling out of underneath it’s mother. OMG. The bug gave birth on Bean’s hand! Show me that in any classroom across America!
There’s nothing on earth like a Sunday afternoon spent laying in wet grass, watching tiny little lives emerge with you own tiny little life. Now that is the best Diva day ever.
